This is the story of my aunt who is living in her own world and one can only imagine what is going on inside her brain as it fires memories from a span of 92 years.

tornado cont’d

Jim & I decided to load up Aunt Martha and ride to town to see what was going on. We could not have imagined what we would find. Our town had been ripped through by a f4 tornado that was 1 mi wide stayed on the ground for 250 mi. Had 120mpw and had spun off 10 other tornadoes. One of the most destructive tornados in years. Buildings, homes, buissnes were flattened as if they were made of puddy. Massive trees were gone, splintered, bent and on top of many many houses. 10 deaths total. There are amazing stories of survival. A man in a church was cleaning and someone called him to take cover. He got under the comunion table and survived with scratches. The whole entire church was completely demolished except for the table he was under. A mother in a trailor put a mattress over her 3 young boys and got on top of it to protect them. She was killed and the 3 boys survived with minimal injuries. She was the epitamy of what a mothers love is. I am so thankful our home was spared. Other than the inconvenience of no electricity was a very very small price to pay considering the devestation this town and people are having to endure.

It is time to catch up on my blogging. It has been very scary and very exciting these last few days. I live in yazoo city, ms . My boyfriend Jim had come down to visit for a long weekend. He lives in arizona. I was very excited about seeing him & for him to meet Aunt Martha. He had heard so much about her he was excited too. The weekend started off wonderful Aunt Martha liked him very much. I would coax her into coming into the living room and sitting with us and having our meals together. She is spending very little time out of bed these days. Most of her care is now in her room from her bed. Getting her to eat has become more and more perplexing. I have had to be very inventive to get some amount of nutrition in her. Just so happened my father brought me some fileted perch that we cooked up and was delicious. She enjoyed it very much seeing that fish is one of her favorite meals. The following morning Saturday started out as usual but with stormy weather. My daughter called to inquire if we were ok. I questioned her as to why she ask and she stated bad weather. Jim & I at once turned on the t.v. and there was a line of storms and tornados headed straight for us. We headed outside to see (yes dumb maybe) but too curious and the winds were blowing extremely strong and the dogs were freaking out! So what does my wonderful Jim do goes and gets his flip recorder and records the storm! These can be seen on you tube under thejimmyvlog part 1 & part 2. Little did we know at the time that he was recording a f4 tornado! that was approx 4 mi down the road. Then the rain came pouring down. Folllowing 10-15 mins of this it was gone. Beautiful sunshine came out. We had lost power by this time. During this storm I had moved Aunt Marthas w/c into her room to get her in it and get her into the hall bathroom which I thought was the safest room in the house. Once the storm was over we began getting the reports. Yazoo City had been hit hard and was devestated.

baby cason

aunt marthas last few days have been quiet but clear for her. she is not near as energetic as she was but again 92 y/os old! but then baby cason my grandson has come to visit he is 5 mo’s old and he lights up when he sees her as well as does she. it is amazing to watch a 92 y/o and a 5 month old interact and cannot even wrap my brain around the span of years this precious woman has lived and the very early beginnings of this baby! amazing. hope for some good pics between the two of them is my goal.

Yesterday was not a good day for aunt martha. just didnt feel like getting out of bed and stayed there and slept most of the day. This morning was able to coax her out of bed, dress and eat small amount breakfast and got to recliner. has been there ever since sleeping again! she ask me to put her back in the bed but i softly encouraged to at least sit up in chair simply due to the fact that staying in a bed will drain all of energy and strength one has. it takes a lot more energy to sit up in a chair then to lay in a bed. i am cooking  one of her favorite meals hoping she will eat well tonight. meatloaf, sweet corn, turnip greens! hope she likes!

yesterday was not a good day for aunt martha. She had talked a lot during the night. I heard her at 1:30pm calling for help and found her sitting on her chair (again made it out of hospital bed with full rails)! After assting her back to bed she continued to talk off and on the rest of the evening. Some of her questions included where was John & Henry (her brothers who have passed several years ago) ? My answer was that they were still at work. Since she had not eaten much lunch i made her some peanut butter and crackers where she preceded to “sew” the crackers one each for my son and one for my daughter! One morning i fixed her 2 waffles and sausage which she enjoyed and exclaimed how good they were. While i was standing beside her to take her plate she is yelling toward kitchen how good her breakfast was and how much she enjoyed it! When i ask her who she was talking to she replied my daughter! who was no where in the house and certainly had not made breakfast! but i let her take all the credit & enjoyed sharing the story with her when she returned home. My daughter did stay with her for me while i ran some errands and fed her a delicious hamburger at which she exclaimed to my daughter that was a delicious pancake!!!!!  i love aunt martha she is precious

It is amazing to me how the brain works and yet we know so little about it. Aunt Martha during one of her frenzied states she was awake for 2 days and 2 nights. As if she was completely wired. It was as if her brain could not shut down to even rest. I could only imagine that all the memories that are stored in the brain as filing cabinets. I could just picture all of the filing drawers just flying 90 miles per hour with all of her memories over 92 years all coming out at one time. Thanks to doctors and medication she was finally able to rest.
